Human
Humans are the most common race and the most versatile. They have no special resistances or innate abilities, but they excel in every class and can train their primary stats higher than any other race.
(0 creation points)
Doppleganger — Human Remort
All human remorts have mutated into new forms. The strain of transformation greatly increases their hunger and thirst, causing them to require food and water twice as fast as normal. All human remorts also gain the permanent ability to walk on water.
Dopplegangers gain the shapeshift skill, which changes their short description to that of a mob in the same room. They can only hold this form for a limited time, and revert to their original form if attacked. Dopplegangers are also resistant to charm.
All human remorts: water walk (permanent)
Doppleganger: shapeshift, charm resistance
Medusa — Human Remort
All human remorts have mutated into new forms. The strain of transformation greatly increases their hunger and thirst, causing them to require food and water twice as fast as normal. All human remorts also gain the permanent ability to walk on water.
Medusas gain the snake bite skill, which does minor damage but poisons the victim and acts as a possible 3rd or 4th attack. They also gain granite stare, a spell which turns a single mob to stone — the mob crumbles to dust along with any equipment and gold on it. Medusas are also resistant to poison.
All human remorts: water walk (permanent)
Medusa: snake bite, granite stare, poison resistance
Automatic Skills
Automatic skills are passive abilities that are always active — they require no command to use and cannot be toggled off. They are typically granted at character creation or upon reclassing.

Waterwalk
This ability allows human remorts to walk on water, thereby eliminating the need for a boat or fly spell.

Welcome to Redemption MUD. This section covers the essential commands you'll use from the moment you log in. If you're completely new, start with How to Connect, then work through the topics below in order.
Tip: Type help newbie in-game for a guided introduction from the game itself.
Topics in this section
- How to Connect — client setup and server address
- Look — examining your surroundings
- Moving Around — navigation and exits
- Inventory — managing what you carry
- Equipment — wearing and wielding gear
- Communication — talking to other players
- Score & Stats — reading your character sheet
- The Help Command — looking things up in-game
How to Connect
Redemption MUD is free to play and requires no download — just a MUD client or a plain telnet connection.
Connection Details
Host: redemptionmud.com
Port: 4000
Recommended Clients
Any MUD client will work. These are popular free options:
- Mudlet — feature-rich, scriptable, recommended for most players
- MUSHclient — lightweight, Windows only
- TinTin++ — terminal-based, for advanced users
First Steps
When you connect you'll be prompted to create a character. Choose a name, a race, and a class. If you're unsure what to pick, Human and Warrior are forgiving starting choices.
Tip: Once in-game, type help newbie for a guided tour from the game itself.
Look
look is your primary way of seeing the world. It shows you the name and description of your current room, the exits available, and any items or characters present.
Commands
look — describe the current room
look <target> — examine a character, item, or object
examine <target> — look more carefully at an item (shows extra detail)
Reading a Room
A typical room display shows:
- Room name — where you are
- Description — what the place looks, sounds, or smells like
- Exits — directions you can move (e.g. [ Exits: north east ])
- Items — objects lying on the ground
- Characters — NPCs and other players in the room
Tip: You can abbreviate look to just l.
Moving Around
Redemption is a world of thousands of rooms connected by exits. You move by typing a direction.
Basic Directions
north or n
south or s
east or e
west or w
up or u
down or d
Other Useful Movement Commands
exits — list available exits in this room
recall — teleport back to your home temple
where — show your current location
open <door> — open a closed door before passing through
Tip: If you get lost, type recall to return safely to the starting area. Some zones block recall — if you're stuck, ask for help on the newbie channel.
Inventory
Your inventory is everything you're carrying but not currently wearing or wielding.
Commands
inventory or i — list what you're carrying
get <item> — pick up an item from the ground
get <item> <container> — take an item from a bag or chest
drop <item> — drop an item on the ground
put <item> <container> — place an item into a bag or chest
give <item> <player> — hand an item to another character
Tip: Bags let you carry far more. Pick up a bag early and use put to keep things organized.
Equipment
Equipment is gear your character is actively wearing or wielding. Wearing better gear increases your armor, stats, and combat effectiveness.
Commands
equipment or eq — show everything you're wearing/wielding
wear <item> — put on a piece of armor or clothing
wield <weapon> — ready a weapon for combat
hold <item> — hold an item in your off-hand
remove <item> — take off a piece of equipment
compare <item> — compare an item to what you have equipped
Equipment Slots
Your character has slots for head, neck, shoulders, chest, arms, hands, waist, legs, feet, two fingers, and more. Type eq to see what each slot currently holds.
Tip: New characters start with basic gear from the outfit command. Type outfit once at start to get a free set of starter equipment.
Communication
Redemption has several channels for talking to other players, ranging from your immediate surroundings to the entire server.
Channels
say <message> — speak to players in the same room
tell <player> <message> — send a private message to one player
yell <message> — shout to nearby rooms
chat <message> — talk on the global chat channel
newbie <message> — ask questions on the newbie help channel
emote <action> — perform an action (e.g. emote waves hello)
Tip: The newbie channel is friendly and monitored by experienced players. Don't hesitate to ask questions there — everyone was new once.
Score & Stats
Your character sheet shows your current stats, level, experience, and more.
Commands
score or sc — full character sheet
affects — list active spells and effects on you
worth — show your gold and bank balance
Key Stats
- HP — Hit Points. Reach 0 and you die.
- Mana — Required to cast spells.
- Move — Spent when walking. Replenishes when you rest.
- Str / Int / Wis / Dex / Con / Cha — Core attributes affecting combat, spells, and skills.
- Armor Class (AC) — Lower is better. Better gear = lower AC.
- Hitroll / Damroll — Bonus to hit enemies and bonus damage dealt.
Tip: Type rest to recover HP, Mana, and Move faster. Type sleep to recover even faster (but you can't act while sleeping).
The Help Command
The in-game help system covers nearly every command, skill, spell, race, and class in Redemption.
Usage
help — show a general help overview
help <topic> — look up a specific topic
help newbie — recommended reading for new players
help warrior — example: look up the warrior class
help fireball — example: look up a spell
If a topic has multiple entries (like a class with reclass options), try adding a keyword: help mage wizard or help mage alchemist.
Tip: This website mirrors the in-game help files so you can browse and search without being logged in. Use the sidebar or the search bar above to explore.
