Getting Connected
1
Choose how to connect
You have two options: play directly in your browser with no downloads, or install a dedicated MUD client for the best experience.
In Browser: Visit
our Play page and click "Open via MudPortal" or "Open via Mudslinger". Enter
mud.redemptionmud.com and port
4000 when prompted.
Desktop Client: Download
Mudlet (free, all platforms). Create a new profile with host
mud.redemptionmud.com and port
4000.
2
Create your character
When you connect, you'll be greeted by the login screen. Type new to begin character creation. You'll choose a name, password, race, and class. Don't stress over this — you can change your class later without losing progress.
3
Start in the newbie area
New characters begin in a safe starting area designed to teach you the basics. Read the signs, talk to the NPCs, and explore. You won't be attacked by other players here.
Tip: Type help newbie in-game for a quick reference guide. Type help commands for a full list of available commands.

Understanding the World
PK (Player Killing): Redemption has a player-vs-player system. New characters start protected. When you're ready, you can flag yourself for PK — but be warned, the stakes are real. Hardcore mode raises them even higher.
Classes & Remort: Your class defines your abilities. You can switch classes later without losing experience. Once you reach a high enough level, the remort system lets you transcend your current limits and start a new path with additional power.
Quests: Talk to NPCs with an exclamation mark (!) or question mark (?) in their title — these indicate quest givers. Quests reward experience, gold, and sometimes unique items.
Crafting: Materials can be gathered from monsters and the world. Visit our
Crafting page to see what can be made and what you need to make it.
Tips for Survival
💡
Don't fight what you can't handle
Type consider <target> before attacking a mob. It will tell you how tough the fight will be. If it says "You would need considerable help" — back away.
💡
Rest to recover
Type rest to recover hit points and mana faster. Type sleep to recover even faster. Type wake to stand back up.
💡
Ask for help
The Redemption community is welcoming. Type gossip Hey, I'm new — any tips? and players will likely respond. You're not alone in the world.
💡
Read the in-game help files
Redemption has a comprehensive help system. Type help <anything> — skills, spells, commands, lore — if it exists, there's probably a help file for it. You can also browse them on our Help Files page.
